“For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.” Romans 12:4-5
Sharing and partnership is at the core of a scriptural understanding of the church. This is not just an ethical imperative, it is a missional one. In its mission statement, St. Michael’s Kelburn declares:
We exist to honour God
and make followers of Jesus
in Kelburn and beyond
It’s a huge task – literally global in its scope. We cannot fulfil our calling to serve God alone. Together we can.
This connection extends beyond practicalities, it’s a mystical one derived from our common sharing of the very Spirit of God. Every Sunday we affirm this when we gather to worship and declare in our call and response, echoing the words of St. Paul,
“E te whanau, we are the body of Christ!
By one Spirit we were baptised into one body.
Then keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Amen! We are bound by the love of Christ.”
